I'd consider myself a Beck fan. I have destroyed a few copies of Mellow Gold by listening to them to death. But Morning Phase is album of the year? I dunno man. I dunno. NeuBeck is just kinda ... boring :-\

Considering that Sam Smith carried the night with that God awful, whiny crib of a Tom Petty song, I've given up on the Grammys. We watched a fair bit of it, and there was not one thing I heard that I found remotely interesting, although John Legend and Common at the end was pretty strong. It's no secret that the Grammys has nothing to do with quality and everything to do with record sales.

Eh... Beck is one of those artists with such a wide body of work that it's entirely possible that you can like some of his work, but not be big on Morning Phase. A lot of his albums have a widely different feel.

I'd recommend pairing it with "Sea Change."

This may be the only time I've ever agreed with the Grammys, I fucking loved that album. Its not an album that has any favorite single of mine on it, but putting that on blaring loud and just kicking back is amazing. I love the vocal harmonies, the mix of the guitars and somehow a banjo with that airy pad synth and the what would be in any other case too much reverb- I have no idea how that works, but it does. The slow build that somehow turns almost country by late album, the way the final song almost steals chords straight from the previous few songs and wraps them into a stronger conclusion... It's beautiful if you manage to stay awake through the whole thing. It definitely isn't easy listening.

I could go on for hours about this. haha

I don't even know who Sam Smith is. He stole a Petty song? Dafuq!

Also ELO!

My collection ended with Modern Guilt. I guess I'll have to give Sea Change a listen but I could certainly hear this sound in Modern Guilt.

I wish I had never heard that song. I'm also not entirely sure I would have noticed the similarities had I not read about it before listening to both tracks.

Anytime I put on Morning Phase it always makes me want to listen to Sea Change instead. So I'll usually end up putting that on instead. *Shrugs* I love Beck anyway, though.

Me, too!!! It's a bit mournful, but I can listen to it on repeat for quite a while. ^_^

It's just a fantastic album to relax to.

Good for getting your mind right some evenings on the way home from work.

Definitely not for listening to on long roads trips when you're getting tired, though.

I have a long daily commute at the moment. Around 50 miles one way. And funnily enough, I've been listening to a lot of post rock lately, both to and from work. Something about the chill instrumentals gets me zen heading into the office in the mornings, and keeps me from getting too annoyed at the end-of-rush-hour idiots at the end of the day who are just as eager to get home as I am. I might have to add Beck into that mix, though. ^_^
